SYLLABULISM is the emotional and highly energetic debut album of the Kilian Sladek Quartet. In the compositions textless vocal music with elements of Extended Vocal Techniques meets world music, free improvisation and contemporary jazz. It includes 7 original compositions and has a playing time of about 45 min. The band consists of Thomas Ganzenmüller (double bass), Manuel Pliefke (drums), Maximilian Hacker (piano) and Kilian Sladek (vocals, composition).
The album contains 7 original compositions and includes about 45min playing time. The opening song AZ-5 is inspired by the fateful chain reaction of the nuclear accident in Chernobyl. From the soft initial piano ostinato, the song gradually develops into a hard and complex discharge, to finally lose itself again in irradiated silence. It is followed by the epochal title "Heaven's Gate". The driving "Afro Cuban" pattern meets very rhythmic vocals, accented phrases and modal improvisation. This is followed by the decidedly upbeat song "Inner Peace." Here bandleader Kilian Sladek introduces himself as a soloist. With the following homage to the power of meditation "Silent Warriors" the greatest dynamic contrasts enter the album. A duet of bass and vocals meets free improvisation and raw big city noise. "Syllabulism" the groovy title track of the debut CD takes its cue from a few minimalist elements and creates space to take a breath. But the break is not of long duration, because with the highly virtuosic "Maotai" comes the jump to China and its restless capital Beijing. Pentatonic lines over a samba groove, scat singing and an expansive piano solo bring the record back to its sporting level. The CD's brilliant ending is simultaneously the album's cornerstone - "In a spiritual mood." The hopeful tenor of the song resembles a shamanistic ritual. The energy of the beginning discharges into a sea of overtones, only to release the listener back into everyday life as an emotional tidal wave with an anthemic earworm.

Aus dem sanften anfänglichen Pianoostinato entwickelt sich der Song stufenweise hin zu einer harten und komplexen Entladung, um sich abschließend wieder in verstrahlter Stille zu verlieren. Gefolgt wird er vom epochalen Titel „Heaven‘s Gate“. Das treibende „Afro Cuban“-Pattern trifft auf sehr rhythmischen Gesang, akzentreiche Phrasen und modale Improvisation. Im Anschluss folgt der ausgesprochen positiv stimmende Song „Inner Peace“. Hier stellt sich Bandleader Kilian Sladek solistisch vor. Mit der darauf folgenden Hommage an die Kraft der Meditation „Silent Warriors“ halten die größten dynamischen Kontraste Einzug in das Album. Ein Duett aus Bass und Gesang trifft auf freie Improvisation und rauhen Großstadtlärm. „Syllabulism“ der groovige Titelsong der Debüt-CD orientiert sich an einigen wenigen minimalistischen Elementen und schafft Raum zum durchatmen. Doch die Pause ist nicht von langer Dauer, denn mit dem hochvirtuosen „Maotai“ kommt der Sprung nach China und seine ruhelose Hauptstadt Peking. Pentatonische Linien über einen Sambagroove, Scatgesang und ein ausladendes Klaviersolo holen die Platte wieder zurück auf ihr sportliches Niveau. Das fulminante Ende der CD ist zeitgleich der Grundstein des Albums - „In a spiritual mood“. Der hoffnungsvolle Tenor des Songs gleicht einem schamanistischen Ritual. Die Energie des Anfangs entlädt sich in ein Meer von Obertönen, um dann als emotionale Flutwelle den Hörer mit einem hymnischen Ohrwurm wieder in den Alltag zu entlassen.
