LINDA JOZEFOWSKI

Linda Jozefowski is an eclectic Polish-Swiss flutist who explores a wide range of musical genres, from jazz to Indian music, electronica, hip-hop, experimental and classical music. The interest in odd rhythms leads her to study and explore the music of different cultures. Inspired by India, Africa and the Middle East, her compositions are based on odd polyrhythmic patterns, grooving bass lines and flowing harmonies that make complex elements readable.

Her first album "For my Dead Folks", released with Unit in 2011 and featuring vibraphonist Jean-Lou Treboux, drummer Maxence Sibille and double-bassist Charly Vilmart, combines modern jazz compositions with south indian rhythmic patterns.

In addition to her own projects, the flutist can be heard on various records shared in the studio with La Velle, Emyle Spanii, Mathieu Michel, François Lindemann, Flavio Boltro, Glenn Ferris, Guillaume Perret, Alvin Queen, Kenneth Dahl Knudsen, Mathias Ruppnig and Uri Gincel. Other productions of various genres include Polylogue from Sila, J. Lamotta and Soultrash.

Description

The album "Focus Natural" by Linda Jozefowski constitutes a special mixture of modern jazz compositions and African-inspired grooves, in which rhythmic experiments are the quintet's common thread. "Focus Natural" is a kind of philosophy in which focus and spontaneity, concentration and creativity flow naturally.

The music is caracterised by organic and earthly grooves, pentatonic melodies and transcendental bass lines that cross weird rhythmic patterns. The result is a wild, fresh and rough music.

"Very exciting and intense music with great flute solos on all the pieces. It shows that the flute is a powerfull instrument.”
Günther Wehinger
Swiss flautist Linda Jozefowski is excited to release her next album "Focus Natural" on January 20, 2023, with amazing musicians by her side.

Recorded under special conditions during a residency at Maison-Matrice in Crémines, "Focus Natural" is a kind of philosophy where focus and spontaneity, concentration and creativity are flowing totally natural. The result is a wild, fresh and rough music.

Linda's music is caracterised by organic and earthly grooves crossing weird rhythmic patterns. This time, the composer is inspired by african gnawa rhythms and turns them into more complex polyrhythms. Some compositions also recall the sound of the cool jazz of the 70ties.

The album is a mixture of modern jazz compositions and African-inspired grooves, where rhythmic experimentation is the quintet's common thread. It is no coincidence that the Jozefowskis have chosen two extraordinary masters of rhythm for the occasion: Swiss pianist Malcolm Braff on Fender Rhodes and Uruguayan/Berlin drummer Diego Pinera float together over improbable rhythmic peaks, while French double bassist Marion Ruault holds it all together with uncommon nonchalance. Floating melodies, often played together by a bass clarinet (Domenic Landolf) and an alto flute (Linda Jozefowski), create at times fascinating and mysterious atmospheres.

THE TRACKS
11 AM IN FOREIGN TIMES (Nikki Horton), AFIWA and TANA are inspired by african and gnawa rhythms in which more complex polyrhythms are performed thanks to the complicity and the rhythmical knowledge of Malcolm Braff and Diego Pinera. KARMIC PATHS and DOING NOTHING also the sound of the cool jazz of the 70ties. DUNKELBLAU and AQUATICA are characterized by their simple form and their original, modern interpretation. The Album also includes a alto flute solo and a duo with Domenic Landolf on the bass clarinet, interpreting the jazz standard from Sam Rivers BEATRICE in 7 beats. All the tracks are originals ecxept 11 AM IN FOREIGN TIMES and BEATRICE
Having Malcolm Braff on Linda’s side for her new project is dream that came true: with his very special rhythmic approach and his research on the different kinds of "swings" that exists in other musical cultures (like in brazilian or gnawa music), Malcolm Braff could’t be but the better interpret for her compositions, transforming the grooves into never heard patterns. The Berlin based drummer Diego Pinera, a specialist in the field of odd rhythms, surfed with extreme ease on the tracks, with absolute precision and rhythmical sensitivity. With her colored and full sound, young french bassist Marion Ruault brings to the music the earthly, wild groove, while the round, bautifull lines of saxophonist and bass clarinettist Domenic Landolf contributes into giving a deeper and layer to the canvas.
