Luca Zambito
Pianist Luca Zambito is a south german jazz musician with a forward thinking approach to the music.
Born and raised in Munich in 1995, he studied Jazz Piano in Vienna (AT) and completed his bachelor's degree with a year at the Royal College of music in Stockholm. (SWE) He then returned to his hometown where he completed his Master's degree in Jazz Piano at HMT Munich in 2022.
Luca Zambito has been awarded several prizes, such as the 2018 LAG Jazz Prize and the 2021 Young Munich Jazz Prize.
While active as a sideman in the Southern German and Austrian scene, he now presents his own project, the Luca Zambito Quartett. Together with Moritz Stahl (sax.), Nils Kugelmann (bass) and Valentin Renner (drums), he recorded his debut album Ancestry, which will be released Unit Records on February 9.
His quartet combines the playfulness of the four musicians with a narrative compositional landscape.
The music moves between harmonically and rhythmically structured passages and a free interplay that creates tension through the musical voices of the different characters and their approach to the moment.
One is drawn into a web of sound that is sometimes formed by filigree intimacy, then again by explosive energie and is held together by the lightness in the interplay.
In this process, the love for influences from jazz history, european classical and pop as well as freely improvised music inspires this process.
The Luca Zambito Quartet won first place at the Young Munich Jazz Award 2021.
