"Falling Silent" refers to a german magazine "Der Spiegel" interview. The sad subject matter inspired me to write a piece of music of the same name in summer 2019. Just eight months later, it was human civilization that fell silent: with the lockdowns imposed in the wake of the pandemic, life in the cities froze ...
The aesthetics of the music of "Møborg 2", although recorded in times of increasing political, geopolitical and ecological uncertainty (the latter is referred to in the piece "Falling Silent"), do not want to submit to this zeitgeist, at least in terms of sound. The "jazz chamber music"-like arrangements therefore do not fall back on clichés of cacophony or "noise music". Instead, they sound melodically and harmonically almost exclusively consonant.

The aesthetics of the first album of "Møborg 2", although recorded in times of increasing political, geopolitical and ecological uncertainty (the latter is referred to in the piece "Falling Silent"), do not want to submit to this zeitgeist, at least in terms of sound. The arrangements therefore do not fall back on clichés of cacophony or "noise music". Instead, they sound melodically and harmonically almost exclusively consonant.

"Falling Silent" refers to a Der Spiegel interview that I happened to come across in the summer of 2019 and that touched me so much that I wanted to dedicate a piece of music to the subject. ("Where is the whinchat?", short interview with book author Ernst Paul Dörfler, Der Spiegel No. 25 / June 15, 2019).
Just eight months later, it was human civilization itself that fell silent: with the lockdowns imposed in the wake of the pandemic, life in the cities froze ... The silence in the densely populated and otherwise rather loud and lively city of Lisbon was strange and oppressive.
The recording of the album, originally planned for April 2020, had to be postponed. Another two and a half years would pass before the music was finally recorded at the end of October 2022.

The name "Møborg 2" is a turnoff sign for the farming community "Møborg" in West Jutland/Denmark. The sign is located on Damhusvej between the villages of Vemb and Bækmarksbro. The turn-off to Møborg is close to a small farm where I spent many years on vacation with my family as a child. The place became a kind of second home for me, in a childhood that was not overshadowed by climate change, wars, pandemics or other major problems. And the landlord and his wife were like grandparents to us children.

"Møborg 2" is an association with fond memories of a carefree time in a place that I still sometimes dream of today ...

Die Ästhetik der Musik von „Møborg 2” möchte sich, obgleich aufgenommen in Zeiten zunehmender politischer, geopolitischer und ökologischer Unsicherheit (auf letztere wird im Stück „Falling Silent” auch Bezug genommen) klanglich diesem Zeitgeist nicht unterordnen. Sie ist nicht durch kakofonische Klischees und „Geräuschmusik” geprägt, sondern melodisch und harmonisch fast ausschließlich konsonant.

„Falling Silent” bezieht sich auf ein Der Spiegel-Interview, das mir im Sommer 2019 zufällig in die Hände fiel und mich so sehr berührte, dass ich dem Thema ein Musikstück widmen wollte. („Wo ist das Braunkehlchen?“, Kurzinterview mit Buchautor Ernst Paul Dörfler, Der Spiegel Nr. 25 /15. Juni 2019).
Nur acht Monate später war es dann die menschliche Zivilisation selbst, die verstummte: Mit den im Zuge der Pandemie verhängten Lockdowns erstarrte das Leben in den Städten … Die Stille in der dichtbesiedelten und sonst eher lauten und belebten Stadt Lissabon war merkwürdig und wirkte bedrückend.
Die Aufnahmen des Albums, ursprünglich für April 2020 geplant, mussten verschoben werden. Es würden noch weitere zweieinhalb Jahre verstreichen, bis die Musik schließlich Ende Oktober 2022 aufgenommen werden konnte.

Der Name „Møborg 2” ist eine Ortsangabe zur Bauernschaft „Møborg” in Westjütland/Dänemark. Das Schild befindet sich an der Damhusvej zwischen den Orten Vemb und Bækmarksbro. Die Abzweigung nach Møborg ist an einem kleinen Bauernhof gelegen, in dem ich als Kind mit meiner Familie viele Jahre die Ferien verbrachte. Der Ort wurde eine Art zweite Heimat für mich, in einer Kindheit, die nicht von Klimawandel, Kriegen, Pandemien oder anderweitigen großen Problemen überschattet war. Und der Vermieter und seine Frau waren wie Großeltern zu uns Kindern.

„Møborg 2” ist eine Assoziation mit schönen Erinnerungen an eine unbeschwerte Zeit an einem Ort, von dem ich noch heute manchmal träume …

Es überwiegen die „Porträt-Kompositionen” mit Bezug auf für mich wichtige Situationen und Ereignisse der letzten Jahre.
